Bora Bora Island

Bora Bora is an island in the Pacific Ocean under the Leeward group of the Society Islands of French Polynesia. Its original Tahitian name is Pora Pora, meaning "First Born". An earlier transcription of it in the 18th /19th-century is 'Bolabolla' or 'Bollabolla'. The island, about 230 km northwest of Papeete, is fenced off by a lagoon and a barrier reef. The remnants of an extinct volcano formed two peaks, Mount Pahia and Mount Otemanu with its highest point tipping at 727m.
